TERAY SANG....Today`s stark reality is lack of parental love. Not because parents do not want to, but because their focus is not right. Parents are either busy with their business or profession leaving their kids in care of nannies or some even in creches. The result - children grow up feeling that lack of love and miss having their parents around when they need them the most. Most kids go `elsewhere` in search of love to fill than aching void while others rebel in different ways, for e.g., getting hooked on to alcohol or drugs. If you look around, this is exactly what is happening today. This is what director Satish Kaushik is trying to portray in TEREE SANG, a story about a girl who misses her parents love. She has a dream home and whatever a young schoolgirl of 15 can desire. But is that all she wants or is there something more she is aching for? Her father plainly tells her that he has sacrificed a lot to give her all the luxuries of life. But he has missed the boat. He was trying to replace his love with material gifts. All that the girl`s craving for is her parents` presence. The result, she befriends a boy in her neighbourhood, although not in her league, and is pregnant. All hell breaks loose. The girl`s father a Richie rich lawyer threatens to sue the boy`s father, a rickshaw driver. The kids run away from home to create their own love nest. Kudos to Satish Kaushik for tackling a sensitive subject, which most parents tend to sweep under the carpet. The film has an interesting first half but post interval, Kaushik takes too many cinematic liberties and dilutes the plot with unnecessary focus on boy and girl trying to make ends meet in their `home in the mountains`, a la LOVE STORY, QYAMAT SE QAYAMAT TAK, and MAINE PYAAR KIYA. That is where he goes wrong. It was not needed. Had those scenes been chopped, the movie would have been much crisper and the message would have come out louder. Nevertheless, it is an honest attempt at addressing

AGYAAT-THE UNKNOWN....I really don`t know what`s scarier - watching Ram Gopal Varma`s latest scare fest AGYAAT or the fact that he boldly mentions as the movie ends... coming soon AGYAAT 2. Now this has to be one director who is high on confidence. C`mon mate, what is this movie all about? Is this a new genre you are creating `Comic Horror`. In the past, you have made a few good films, but to take credit for this (sorry to use the word) crap... I mean it is ridiculous. Have you no regards for the ``mango people`` (aam junta)? In one scene, there is a dialogue, which goes thus: ``Picture banana nahi hai, khatam karna hai. ``And another which goes something like this. ``First day first show pe chaar aadmi theatre aate hain. Usme se do soote hain.`` In this case, it is the producer of the film, who is mouthing this dialogue. He has taken his unit to a dense forest in Sri Lanka for a film shoot. And here it is where they are being chased by an unknown force. So was Ramu shooting a film or trying to complete it? Your guess is as good as mine! This one is for the film`s heroine... Shakespeare aptly summed it up: ``What`s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.`` So whether it`s Priyanka or Nisha, it will not matter! I don`t want to ridicule her but what she does with her eyeballs is quite funny. As for the rest of the cast, the less said the better. One final word: Ramu, please respect your audience. A trip to the multiplex is no cheap affair.

SANKAT CITY....Sankat City: Go enjoy the ride Starring: Kay Kay Menon, Rimi Sen, Anupam Kher, Chunky Pandey, Yashpal Sharma and Dilip Prabhawalkar Director: Pankaj Advani Guru (Kay Kay Menon) is a car thief whose partner in crime is a garage owner Ganpat (Dilip Prabhawalkar). Fouzdar (Kher), an underworld don sends his driver to deliver Rs. 1 crore cash to deliver it to filmmaker Gogi (Manoj Pahwa). But Guru ends up stealing this car and is over the moon on finding the cash bag inside. But before Guru could savor the money, he is caught by Fouzdar. When Fouzdar sends his henchman Lovely (Jehangir Khan) along with Guru to get back his money hidden in garage, Lovely unintentionally ends up hurting Ganpat’s head. Since Ganpat before that had hidden the money at a different place it gets crazier since Ganpat now has lost his memory with the assault on his head. Now Guru is given three days by Fouzdar to get back his money or else face death. Guru then chances upon his old partner in crime Mona (Rimi) and both join hands. What helluva crazy ride it all leads as Guru goes on to get Rs. 1 crore forms the rest of the plot. The film’s biggest assets are the zany humour and also the acting by each and every actor. Pankaj Advani’s narrative style is terrific and keeps you engaged throughout. It is good debut by the filmmaker. While the first half breezes quickly, the second gets a little slow but however the film picks up well during the climax. Amongst the most hilarious scenes are Anupam Kher’s sequences with a nervous wreck builder played by Yashpal Sharma, Kay Kay and Ganpat’s friendly banter, Kay Kay and Rimi’s theft at Yashpal Sharma’s flat and Kay Kay’s taxi ride with a Sardar taxi driver who is hunting for his lost brother. Ranjit Barot’s background music is impressive. Kay Kay is simply superb while Rimi gives her best performance till date. Her constant Bengali banter is cute. Anupam Kher is top class. Chunky Pandey in a double role is hilariously good. Manoj Pahwa,
